Data is used as input for the computer system. Information is the output of data. Data is unprocessed facts figures. Information is processed data. Data doesn’t depend on Information. Information depends on data. Data is not specific. Information is specific.

Data can be any character, text, words, number, pictures, sound, or video and if not put into context means nothing to a human or computer. However, information is useful and can be understood by the human. Below is an example of the same data and information and how they differ. **Example of Data** Joe,Smith, 1234 Circle,SLC,UT,8404,8015553211 **Example of Information** Joe Smith 1234 Circle Salt Lake City, UT 84084 (801)555-3211 As can be seen in the above example, looking at just the data you may be able to understand some of the text on the line, but it isn't really useful. That same information, when broken out into readable text and slightly formatted becomes much more useful and allows you to identify it is contact information for Joe Smith.

Dear friend The term data refers to factual information, especially that used for analysis and based on reasoning or calculation. Data itself has no meaning, but becomes information when it is interpreted. Information is a collection of facts or data that is communicated.

In Latin ‘datum’ means “that which is given”. Information is interpreted data. Data is raw, unorganized facts that need to be processed. Data can be something simple and seemingly random and useless until it is organized W hen data is processed, organized, structured or presented in a given context so as to make it useful, it is called Information Example of data Each student’s test score is one piece of data Example of information -- The class’ average score or the school’s average score is the information that can be concluded from the given data. Thanks
