I took a new GMCS-1 course before registering for my CA articleship. Will it be valid or will I have to do it again?

No such a type of case was there till now as you are asking about.
Apart from that it is noted that ICAI requires a person to pursue GMCS1 within 1st year of articleship.
You have two options :-
Just talk to your CA to sign your commencement of articleship form on back date and thereafter you will be shown on leave for GMCS-1.
Or ICAI may also allow you such GMCS. might be there will be no issue.
