There are 4 major components of DSS 1.User: applies its knowledge for solution of problems. There are two types of users for DSS: -- Analysts: they normally design & develop the DSS using complex formulae & functions for a problem solution. -- Managers: these users have knowledge of problem to be solved & they use already created DSS for problem‟s solutions. 2.Planning Language: provide GUI for structuring of problems or creating model base. They provide various functions & features for efficient solution of problems. There are two types of planning languages: -- General Purpose Planning Language: provides general functions & features to solve general purpose semi-structured or ad-hoc problems. Used for those problem‟s solutions which have low data volumes. --Special Purpose Planning Language: used for solution of problems which have large data volume. Provides special functions & features which help to solve complex functions or procedures. 3.Model Base: this is the most important component of DSS. It is also known as brain of DSS. It provides the structure of the problem to be solved by DSS. 4.Data Base: this component is used to provide inputs for a DSS problem. There are 2 types of database in DSS: -- User Database: includes data or inputs collected by user from various sources.

> COMPONENTS OF DSS **Meaning** -Decision support systems vary greatly in application and complexity, but they all share specific features. A typical Decision support systems has four components: data management, model management, knowledge management and user interface management. -The decision support systems can be defined as the interactive information systems, which are very much dependent on the integrated set of the user friendly hardware and the software tools, mainly in order to produce the information and then to present the information that is mainly targeted for providing the much needed support to the management in the process of the decision making. **Components of the Decision Support Systems** **Data Management Component** The data management component performs the function of storing and maintaining the information that you want your Decision Support System to use. The data management component, therefore, consists of both the Decision Support System information and the Decision Support System database management system. **Model Management Component** The model management component consists of both the Decision Support System models and the Decision Support System model management system. A model is a representation of some event, fact, or situation. As it is not always practical, or wise, to experiment with reality, people build models and use them for experimentation. Models can take various forms. **User Interface Management Component** The user interface management component allows you to communicate with the Decision Support System. It consists of the user interface management system. This is the component that allows you to combine your know-how with the storage and processing capabilities of the computer. **Knowledge Management Component** The knowledge management component, like that in an expert system, provides information about the relationship among data that is too complex for a database to represent. It consists of rules that can constrain possible solution as well as alternative solutions and methods for evaluating them.

Model Base: this is the most important component of DSS. It is also known as brain of DSS. It provides the structure of the problem to be solved by DSS. Data Base: this component is used to provide inputs for a DSS problem. There are 2 types of database in DSS: -- User Database: includes data or inputs collected by user from various sources. -- Corporate Database: includes data values provided by organization‟s operational database.
