Unhealthy Study Habits To Avoid For Good Results
Avoiding unhealthy studying habits may feed us with better and deserving results.
1. Group study:
Group study is not always helpful, especially during this time, when you have just 1 week left for your exams. An effective study requires studying in personal rather than socializing in order to avoid losing out on quality study time.
2. Over-scheduling:
Scheduling your day for proper study is a must, but over-scheduling may prove harmful. Try to create a balance between your studies and relaxation time. You are definitely required to increase your studying time, but do this in a manner which keeps you stress-free.
3. Music:
Many students have a habit of studying along with music in the background. But this should strongly be avoided. Noise and music interferes with the brain&;s ability to comprehend new information and can distract you from focussing on the material in hand.
4. Poor Environment:
The ‘poor environment’ here means the studying environment which should be a comfortable one. If you are uncomfortable at a chair, desk, room, the temperature is too cold or too hot, you will be unsuccessful studying. Find a right place for you, so that the study environment is unable to ruin your quality time.
5. Multi-tasking:
However, many people are able to multi-task, but this should be avoided at this time. This may be useful and good for daily tasks, but when it comes to studying, you may not be able to retain as much material as you were able to focus purely on one task.
6. Last minute cramming:
When just a last few days are left for the exams, students involve themselves in cramming rather than studying. Cramming may be helpful in retaining things for a short duration but is ultimately terrible at long term knowledge retention and can cause undue stress.
7. Eating too much: “Eating properly” and “too much eating” are two different things. While eating properly keeps you healthy and stress free, too much eating can block your minds, making you feel sleepy during study hours. Go for light snacks rather than heavy food during the study hours.
8. Drinking:
Avoid drinking coke or those drinks which contains alcohol. However, it is important to stay awake and hydrated. Go for water (or caffeine). This will help you in staying awake and avoiding boredom & stress while studying.
9. Studying at bed:
Working in your bed is not only comfortable but very comfortable. Studying in the bed is an unhealthy studying habit in a sense that while it may be comfortable, your bed can also soothe you to sleep instead of study. It is advisable not to study on your bed, especially for late night studies, as you will be tempted to fall asleep.
10. Studying while commuting:
Studying during a commute increases the depression risk especially during this critical time, even if you like studying while you are traveling in a car or a bus. These environments may be good for light reading but are not good for intense reading. So avoid this even if you are worried about your exams.
11. Outside Stress:
Keep yourself stress-free from the outside environment, because your exams should be your top priority. Try to keep your other problems aside and just focus on your studies.
