Figure Matrix

There are rows and columns in the matrix. Horizontal line is called row while the vertical line is called column. There is a certain relation between the elements of rows and columns. In this type of questions, a matrix is given in which one space is left blank or denoted by a question make. Four answer figures are followed by the matrix. The candidate has to find out which answer figure will be replaced by the question mark.

Example : In the following matrix, which of the answer figure will replace the questions mark?

MatrixAnswer Figures

Answer with Explanation (B) : Here the relation is in the columns. In the first column, in the (I) row is x, in the (II) row the design of (I) is enclosed by a circle while in (III) row the design of (II) is enclosed by a square. By the same relation in Second column in place of ? The design ‘ ‘ will be enclosed by a circle of. Hence the answer is (B).

Sample Questions

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix.

Solution : Option (1)

In each row, the central part of the first figure rotates either 90o CW or 90o ACW to form the central part of the second figure and the central part of the first figure rotates through 180o to form the central part of the third figure. Also, in each row, there are 3 types of side elements- rectangles, circles and triangles.

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix.

Solution : Option (1)

In each row, the second figure is obtained from the first figure by reversing the direction of the RHS arrow and the third figure is obtained from the second figure by reversing the direction of both the arrows.

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix.

Solution : Option (4)

In each row, there are 3 types of shadings of circles – a circle is unshaded, another circle has its right half shaded with vertical lines and yet another circle has its upper half shaded with horizontal lines. There are three specified positions of the two triangles each of which is used only once in a row. Also, two of the figures in each row have one triangle shaded.

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix.

Solution : Option (3)

In each row, the third figure is a collection of the common elements (line segments) of the first and the second figures.

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix.

Solution : Option (C)

Square is related to circle, in first column no shading in square or circle, in second column two shaded region in both square and circle, hence option (c) satisfy the given figure.

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix.

Solution : Option (B)

One small line is adding to next figure so according to given figure there will be three in line in next.

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix

Solution : Option (D)

The given figure is in decreasing order , we can clearly see in the picture the first row is in decreasing and same as the second hence third row also will be in decreasing , then option (D) satisfy the condition

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix

Solution : Option (B)

In the given picture one line is increasing in row and same as follow in second row.

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix

Solution : Option (D)

In the given figure one dot is decreasing in a sequence order in a row, same as in second row and third row

  1. Select a suitable figure from the four alternatives that would complete the figure matrix

Solution : Option (A)

In a given figure in first row 1stfigure is merged to second hence the third figure comes, so according to it option (A)
