The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is a UK based professional body offering training and qualification in management accountancy and related subjects. It is focused on accountants working in industry, and provides ongoing support and training for members.

CIMA is one of the professional associations for accountants in the UK and Ireland. Its particular emphasis is on developing the management accounting profession. CIMA is the largest management accounting body in the world with more than 227,000 members and students in 179 countries.^[1] CIMA is also a member of the International Federation of Accountants.

Get started

You must register as a CIMA student (using the ‘gateway route’ option) and submit documents proving your eligibility for this route. Documents you will need to include:

• Complete transcripts (mark sheets) for all stages
• Graduation certificate or a letter from your University confirming completion

You will be emailed with full details of how to submit your documents to CIMA after completing your registration.

Once your documents have been reviewed and approved you will then be confirmed onto the gateway route and will be eligible to schedule the CIMA Gateway Exam.

Master’s gateway route

The Master’s gateway route is an accelerated entry route to the CIMA Professional Qualification and the globally recognised CGMA designation for individuals who hold an MBA or Master’s in Accounting.

How does it work?

Eligible individuals are required to take the CIMA Gateway Exam (also known as the Management Level Case Study exam for those who are not on the accelerated route). The CIMA Gateway Exam:

• is a three hour long computer based case study exam
• is based on pre-seen material which is released on CIMAconnect six weeks before the exam (it is your responsibility to access and familiarise yourself with this material before the exam)
• is available in four windows a year (refer to the exam timetable for more information)
• will assesses knowledge and competencies covered in the Management level of the CIMA Professional Qualification

How to get started with CIMA Master’s gateway route

CIMA Masters Gateway 

The CMGA is drawn from the management level of the CIMA syllabus:

P2: performance management

E2: enterprise management

F2: financial management

On successful completion of the CMGA exam, you will be granted 11 exemptions from CIMA’s Professional Qualification and will be awarded the CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. You will also be eligible to start studying for CIMA’s strategic level exams. All exemptions are free.

The CMGA exam is three hours long and can be taken globally at an approved CIMA exam centre. For a one-off fee the CMGA accelerated entry route includes the following:

• your CIMA student registration fee

• your first annual subscription fee

• one attempt at the CMGA exam and;

• three CIMAstudy.com online study modules (E2, P2 and F2).

• What is customer payment reference number and where do i find it?

Your customer payment reference number is a unique identifier to be used when making payments to CIMA via the 24/7 global payment hotline. It can be found on the top of your financial statement in MY CIMA.

• When i call the global payment hotline will i be speaking to a CIMA customer service agent?

No, this payment service is completely automated and as such removes the need to speak to a CIMA customer service agent.

• Is the global payment hotline a secure payment method?

Yes, the payment hotline allows you to type in your credit or debit card number using your telephone keypad. This is a completely secure process as your card details are not stored on CIMA’s network.

• If i have trouble in completing my payment via the global payment hotline,will i be transferred to CIMA contact?

That will depend on when you are calling. If CIMA Contact is open at the time of your call then you will be transferred to them.  However, if CIMA Contact is closed at the time of your call, you will be advised to contact them when they open or if applicable to contact your local office

• If i make payment via the global payment hotline,when will that payment be reflected on my CIMA account?

The payment will be reflected within 24 hours.

• If i make payment via the global payment hotline,how/when will i receive confirmation of that payment?

Once your payment has been successfully made you will receive confirmation via email. You will usually receive this email immediately but please allow 24 hours.
