Guidelines to Become a Chartered Accountant

Becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) is a challenging yet rewarding career decision.Chartered accountants are equivalent to certified public accountants in the United States.

Different levels during CA course.

 1. CPT(Common Proficiency Test)
 2. IPCC(Integrated Professional Competence  Course)
 3. CA final.
CPT (Common Proficiency Test):

This is the identification for the first level of the CA (Chartered Accountancy) course conducted by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India).

Following subject comes under CPT categories.

  • Accounting
  • Laws
  • Economics
  • Maths(QT, Stats)

1. What is minimum educational qualification required for CPT exam:
A student is allowed to register for the CPT course after his/her 10th Standard, only those students who have appeared in their 10 + 2 examinations are eligible to appear at the CPT examination.

2. Which certificated are required during registration?
Marks sheet of 10th standard Examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government as equivalent to as a proof of minimum educational qualification.(Original Certificates need not be furnished)

3. When can student register for CPT?
Register on or before >> Same year April 1st
[Register on or before Apr 1st 2012 >> To attempt June 2012 Exam]

Register on or before >> Same year October 1st
[Register on or before October 1st 2012 >> To attempt December 2012 Exam]

The registration does not expire. It needs to be done only once. A student once registered, can appear at the CPT examinations by paying the examination fee as many times as needed.Registering before the cut off date is the only requirement to enable a student to appear at the first examination for which he/she is eligible.

4.  where do I submit the application form?

If you are intending to register for:
Postal Coaching
You can submit the Registration Application at the Regional office relevant to the area which you give as the address for communication (generally your place of residence).
Oral Coaching
You can submit the Registration Application at the coaching center where he/she is getting admitted. Even if a student submits his/her application for registration at an office/chapter of the institute near his town/city/village (if they accept it as a service for students), it would ultimately be sent to the relevant regional office/council where the data relating to the student is maintained.

5. What are the fees for the application and registration of CPT exam?
– By Hand – Rs. 100
– By Post – Rs. 125

Group 1:

  • Accounting

1.CA IPCC Registration Procedure:

CA IPCC Registration is not automatic and to register for CA IPCC, a CA aspirant will have to submit the IPCC registration Form.

2.Documents to be submitted with IPCC Registration form

Following documents are to be submitted along with IPCC registration form.

  • Demand Draft/Pay Order towards IPCC Registration Fees
  • Attested Copies of 12th Class Pass Certificate
  • Graduation/Post Graduation marks statement for Direct Entry to Intermediate (IPC) Course
  • Attested Copy of CPT Pass Marks Statement.

3.Exam dates

The main/final examinations for the course at this level are conducted twice every year generally on specified dates which do not change except under extraordinary circumstances.

  • May Examination [2:00 pm to 5:00 pm]
    Group-I – 4th,8th,10th,12th of May;
    Group-II – 6th,14th,16th of May;
  • November Examination [2:00 pm to 5:00 pm]
    Group-I – 6th,10th,12th,14th of November;
    Group-II – 8th,16th,18th of November;

After passing Group – I of IPCC, a candidate must undergo a rigorous 3-year on-the-job training as article or audit assistant, article ship.
