The AICPA Legacy Scholars program is designed to make these stellar students better equipped to conquer the working world. How? By providing them with real-world experience and helping them develop the skills employers are looking for. CPA Legacy Scholars By AICPA : AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship

Scholarship Overview: The John L. Carey Scholarship provides financial assistance to liberal arts and non-business degree holders who are pursuing both graduate studies in accounting and the CPA licensure. This award is funded by the AICPA Foundation and is intended to encourage students with little or no previous accounting education to consider professional accounting careers
.Background: The John L. Carey Scholarship was established by members of the accounting profession to honor John Carey upon his retirement from the AICPA in 1969. During his 40-year tenure at the AICPA, Mr. Carey served as administrative vice president; executive director; and as editor and publisher of the Journal of Accountancy. Mr. Carey dedicated his entire career to serving the accounting profession and made it a priority to encourage outstanding students to become CPAs.

Award Amount:
$5,000 per recipient for one year. Payments are sent directly to the school for credit to the account of the student. This scholarship is a non-renewable award.Number of Recipients: Up to 5 students per academic yearApplication Process: The 2017-18 John L. CPA Legacy Scholars By AICPA : AICPA Accountemps Student Scholarship Award

Scholarship Overview: AICPA and RH/Accountemps offer the AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship Award to provide financial assistance to outstanding accounting students who demonstrate potential to become leaders in the CPA profession.

Award Amount: Recipients receive $10,000 for one year. Payments are sent directly to the school for credit to the account of the student. This scholarship is a non-renewable award.

Number of Recipients: Four students per academic year

Application Process: The 2017-18 AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship Award application will be available in January 2017. The application window will close on April 1, 2017.
Selection Process: A scholarship selection task force will review all qualified applications and select up to four scholarship recipients based on academic achievement, leadership and future career interests in accounting. All applicants will be notified by email of the final selection by August 1.

CPA Legacy Scholars By AICPA : The AICPA Minority Scholarship awards outstanding minority students to encourage their selection of accounting as a major and their ultimate entry into the profession. For over four decades, this program has provided over $14.6 million in scholarships to approximately 8,000 accounting scholars. Funding is provided by the AICPA Foundation, with contributions from the following organizations:

  • Accounting Education Foundation of Texas Society of CPAs
  • New Jersey Society of CPAs
  • Virgin Islands Society of CPAs
  • Robert Half International

2016-17 Minority Scholarship Recipients
For the 2016-17 academic year, 94 accounting students were awarded a total of $451,000. These outstanding students demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership and commitment to pursuing the CPA.

Scholarship Amount/Payments
Recipients receive individual awards of up to $5,000 per academic year. Scholarship aid may be used only for the payment of expenses that directly relate to obtaining an accounting education. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the student’s financial aid office on behalf of the student at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

Is the AICPA Minority Scholarship renewable?
