US CMA | CMA USA Result Analysis : Essays are graded offline by ICMA, so it takes time for the official score to be released by IMA. So you expect the result being declared in 6th week from the end of the month in which you appeared for it.
Now, How Do They Grade the Exam?
- MCQ (multiple choice question) section is around 75% of the total score.
- Essays are for 25% of the total score.
- However to be able to appear for the essay section in the exams, we must score at least 50% on the multiple-choice section.
Here is the Catch

Now, in order to proceed to essay section we need to score 50% in MCQ Section. But note that 50% scoring is actually 250 marks {50% of 500 total scoring} and not 188 marks {which 50% of 375 MCQ}.
That means we need to get a score of 66.67% {250 /375} in MCQ section.
Yes, it’s a weighted scored but still we need to be keeping the same in mind.
(Stephanie’s note: it is likely more complicated than this straight formula because there is a process in which the raw result is converted into a scaled score, but the general idea is there.)
Minimum Score Required to Pass the Exams
In order to pass the entire exam of each part, the minimum scoring is 360 out of 500. This scaled scoring allows the candidates to know how they perform in the relation to the passing standard of 360.

It’s around 40 days from the last day of the month you took the test. Update: in the last two rounds, it has been 42 days, and no longer on Fridays or Mondays. We have changed our estimation accordingly.
Example:
If you take the exam on January 30th, you will know the date sometime in the middle of March.
If you take the exam on January 2nd, your CMA exam result is released the same day as the above because it is 6 weeks after the end of the month you tested.

Log onto www.prometric.com/ICMA to locate a testing center, schedule, confirm, reschedule, or cancel your appointment 24 hours, 7 days a week. Instructions are provided by ICMA at the time your authorization letter is emailed that provides further options for scheduling. ICMA is not responsible if you delay scheduling and there are no longer appointments available within your authorization period. You will be given a confirmation number at the time you schedule an appointment; you should make a note of this number. If you do not schedule an appointment or you don’t appear for a schedule appointment in the selected testing window, you will forfeit your exam fee.
