CIMA Salary survey  2013

Salaries rise for CIMA students and members across India

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) annual salary survey 2014 reveals that both members and students make good earnings, with six out of ten reporting that they are satisfied with their salary. Qualified CIMA members in India are earning an average of Rs. 22.30 lakhs in basic salary plus Rs. 2.40 lakhs in bonus payments. CIMA students earn on average Rs. 9.10 lakhs in basic salary plus Rs. 0.80 lakhs in bonus payments.

The survey underlines the financial benefit of the CIMA qualification with the average pay package increasing by 20% once students become fully qualified CIMA members.

In line with the global average, Indian members and students are overwhelmingly positive about the prospect of salary increases, with over 50% anticipating a pay rise over the next 12 months. Most expect an increase by up to 10%.

Andrew Harding FCMA, CGMA, Managing Director of CIMA, said: ‘In contrast to the overall trend of low wage growth in India, CIMA members and students are showing increasing optimism over pay. The 2014 survey shows that more members and students anticipate salary increases compared with last year. Our new online salary calculator will help members and students explore the salary findings in greater depth and evaluate their own earnings more easily against industry benchmarks. Meanwhile, the salary survey has also found that expectations for negative developments such as budget and job cuts have decreased. In particular, expectations for freezes in recruitment and salary are down significantly since last year.’

Financial reward has become the main motivator for work (70%), becoming more important than last year’s top factors, flexibility and work-life balance (44%, down from 47%).

CIMA members plan to focus on developing leadership skills, and strategic planning and implementation over the coming 12 months while CIMA students say they most want to improve their financial reporting and personal development skills.

Debasish Biswas, Country Head, CIMA India, said, ‘The positive results of the 2014 CIMA Salary Survey for India indicate the career growth potential of CIMA qualified members and students across the country. MNC’s and blue chip Indian companies have begun to take note of the business acumen, analytical skills and overall proficiency that CIMA qualified employees bring to their workplace. We have over 5,000 students enrolled in the CIMA programme and 460 qualified members, many of whom holds senior level positions such as CEO, CFO, Director, President, etc in large corporations across industries in India. With the increasing salary levels that the CIMA qualification attracts, we are experiencing positive signals from the Indian academic and corporate fraternity, and our student base is expected to grow at CAGR of 25-30% over the next few years.’

CIMA offers the Certificate in Business Accounting through integrated dual qualification undergraduate programs at select universities in India, such as Christ University (Bangalore), Manipal University (Manipal & Jaipur campus), GITAM University (Vishakhapatnam), BBD University (Lucknow), Jagran Lakecity University (Bhopal), SGV University (Jaipur) and Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning (Pune).
