CBSE Class 12 Commerce Maths Paper Analysis : The CBSE Class 12 mathematics paper was held on Monday, March 20, 2017. Students found the paper pretty “straight forward but lengthy.” Other than the length of the paper, the reactions were varied regarding the level of difficulty. “I found a number of questions quite difficult and there wasn’t much time to write. I especially found the calculus part quite tough and because I was running out of time, I had to leave a question,” said Ayush Sharma from Somerville School, Noida. Many like him found that there was not enough time to finish the paper. “The paper wasn’t tough but due to shortage of time, I could not revise the answers which is why I am not confident about the overall marks in maths,” said D Ankita, a student of Ryan International School, Noida.

CBSE 2016 Class 12 Math exam was conducted on March 14, 2016. Here, the battle of this difficult subject continues, as the majority of students did not find the paper easy and they said that they were more prepared for NCERT based questions but unfortunately the paper was set from other books class 12th. The questions were given more from supplementary books that are not affordable to many students.

Experts at Meritnation noticed that the pattern of the question paper was different to the exam held in 2016. There were four sections instead of three in this year’s paper. Section B comprised of 2 mark questions, which was new this year. All the questions in the three Sets (Delhi) were considerably different. The paper was relatively lengthy and many questions were asked directly from the NCERT textbook.

Many students found the paper tricky and were not able to comprehend the questions. “A question from ‘Matrix’ took a lot of time and I am still not confident about my answer,” said one of the students. “Many of the students complained about this particular question and moreover, it was a lengthy paper as students had to do a lot of workings and calculations to reach the answers,” says Vagupu expert.

Several students noted that the questions from the Calculus section were not understandable within the given time frame. “We faced shortage of time, as the questions were difficult to understand. **What was the difficulty level of the question paper?**

Compared to last year’s question paper, this year’s Mathematics paper is much better. The paper is not lengthy. The 3 sets essentially contains the same questions except for one or two problems in some sections.

**How much can an average student score?**

An average student can answer 80 – 90 percent of the questions, as majority of the questions are from the text book.

**What are certain noticeable changes in the paper?**

With respect to weightage, there are some changes in the question paper (question wise). Six marks compulsory question from application of derivatives is easy in one set since it is from the text book. Whereas in the other 2 sets questions are not from the text.

**What is the best thing about this year’s Mathematics question paper?**

The best thing about the questions is that the students will not lose their confidence, as most of the questions are familiar to them.

**Overall, what would you say, “Easy or Difficult”?**

On the whole the question paper is easy and those who have worked hard can score full marks. Others will also find it easy to score marks.

Reactions have already started pouring in at Twitter. Some students have asked for liberal marking in the social media platform. “We had to write questions worth 4-6 marks in the two mark category. I wish the correction is liberal” says Akhil Samson (handle: akhil1999gs)

While many tweets are regarding the ‘lengthy question paper’, many have stated that the paper was ‘tricky but easy’. Here’s how students have reacted to “the toughest test” of their life:

CBSE Class 12 Commerce Maths Paper Analysis : The CBSE class 12 board 2017 has appeared for the Mathematics paper today i.e. March 18. The paper has been reported so be significantly higher on the difficulty level and lengthy at the same time. The board has tried to create a balance between difficult and easy questions. Clearly, in the 100 mark paper, 70 mark paper was very easy and had questions directly from the NCERT textbook but, the 30 mark question paper was extremely difficult. Some students even said that questions were out of syllabus and very difficult to interpret.

“Students who are expecting 90 above marks in other subjects are highly disappointed as the paper was unexpected and we didn’t expect the level of difficulty higher than the prescribed NCERT book,” says Conrad, class 12 Commerce student.

“The board should not give questions out of the pattern for which students are not prepared, it directly affects our overall percentage. In highly scoring subject like Mathematics I can expect only 75 marks out of 100” added Conrad.

“I found paper to be average on the difficultly level, though other students found it to be very difficult, I am expecting fair marks in this exam”, says Abhimanyu, class 12 Science student.

There were choices provided between questions in the paper which suggests that, there has been no changes subjected in the paper pattern of Maths class 12 board, by the HRD Ministry. There was only one value based question present in the paper as a change. Many students have reported to have given the average level of performance in the exam today. The paper pattern has not changed, but this year’s paper was of the highest difficulty level in the ten years’ history.
