The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India conducts CA Foundation | CA CPT exam twice in a year in the months of June and December. It is an entry level test for Chartered Accountancy Course. It is an objective test of four subjects i.e. Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. The test is divided into two sessions of two hours each conducted for 200 marks.

ICAI conducts CPT exam twice a year in the months on June and December. Next CPT exam Dec 2017 will be conducted on Sunday 17th December 2017. There are 2 sessions in CPT exam i;e Morning session 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM and Afternoon session 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM. Fundamentals of accounting and Mercantile Law exam will be conducted in the Morning session and General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude will be conducted in the Afternoon session. If you want to write CPT exam in Dec 2017, you should register before 31st September 2017.
General Rule: A student who has got himself registered for Common Proficiency Test 60 days prior to the first day of the month in which CPT examination is to be held i.e. on or before 1st April and 1st October can appear in the CPT examination to be held in June and December respectively. Common Proficiency Test examinations are held in June & December every year.

A candidate is required to secure a minimum of 30 per cent marks in each Section and a minimum of 50 per cent marks in aggregate in all the four Sections to pass the Common Proficiency Test.Minimum Passing Marks For CPT
In other words, it is clarified that if a candidate secures a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the aggregate but fails to secure the minimum marks required in any one or more of the sections A, B, C or D (as mentioned above), his result will be FAIL. Similarly, if a candidate secures a minimum of 30 percent marks in each section but fails to secure 50 per cent marks in the aggregate of all sections,his result will be FAIL.

Last Date to Apply CA CPT
You can apply online for CPT exam Dec 2017 from 4th October 2017 (10.00 hrs) to 25th October 2017 (17.30 hrs). (With Late Fee Last Date is 1st November 2017) Applications received after 1st November 2017 shall not be entertained under any circumstances. It may be noted that there is no provision for acceptance of application forms after 1st November 2017 with a late fee

CA CPT Exam Fee
Applications for admission to Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is required to apply on-line at http://icaiexam.icai.org from 4th October, 2017 to 25th October, 2017 (without late fees) and upto 1 st November, 2017 with late fees of ₹600/-. The exam fees is required to be submitted on-line by using either VISA or MASTER Credit / Debit Card.
The fees payable for the Common Proficiency Test is ₹1000/- for centres in India, ₹1700/- for centres in Kathmandu (Nepal) and $ 300/- for centres in Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai & Muscat
The aforesaid Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is open only to students registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for the Common Proficiency Course on or before 30th June, 2017 and fulfill the requisite eligibility conditions.
Common Proficiency Test application forms duly filled in may be sent so as to reach the Deputy Secretary (Examinations) at New Delhi not later than 27th October 2016. Applications received after 27th October 2016 shall not be entertained under any circumstances.
The candidates who fill up the examination application form online at http://icaiexam.icai.org from 5th April 2017 (10.00 hrs) to 26th April 2017 (17.30 hrs) and remit the fee online by using either VISA or MASTER Credit / Debit Card shall not be charged ` 1000/- (i.e. cost of application form fee).

CA Foundation | CA CPT Exam Guidelines : However, if you have already created an account for any previous term exam on official website icaiexam.icai.org then, you should login to your account directly for applying for May 2017 examination. In other words, you need not re-create the account for each term.
Registration steps 1 :
(a) Select the examination: CPT or Intermediate (IPC)/ATE or Final;
(b) Registration No.: Select Prefix of your SRN (Student Registration Number) with ICAI. Thereafter, enter your remaining 7 digit of your Reg. No.;
(c) Date of Birth: In DD/MM/YYYY format;
In Case your Full Name is not displayed on entering the Reg. No. and Date of Birth, you can still create the login account as a PROVISIONAL CANDIDATE by providing correct particulars.

(d) Email ID: Be careful while entering your E-Mail ID as because all communication including login details will be send by CA Institute to this primary email address; and
Step-2 (Fill up CA Online Application form):

Thereafter, click on save changes button and in the next opened window (i.e. Confirmation Page) check and confirm the particulars displayed viz. Group applied, Region of examination centre, exam centre, medium and registration date etc. Following details shall be shown in the preview window:

DECLARATION CERTIFICATE: From May 2017, CA Institute has made compulsory to attach or upload scanned image of Declaration / Certificate of Service. Note that the scanned image size of Declaration / Certificate of Service should be 100 KB to 200 KB. Step-3 (Pay CA Exam Fee Online):
CA Foundation | CA CPT Exam Guidelines : In the current opened window you may either click on make payment or cancel the payment and log out from there. If you proceed for payment, you have to select your preferred payment method from VISA, MasterCard and Maestro.
If you have created Virtual/ Net/ NetSafe Credit Card (the procedure to create your Virtual Card through Internet Banking has been illustrated above) for making payment then click on VISA and enter the Card Number, Expiry date and security code and click on pay now button from right side.
Therefore, you are not required to follow any further steps i.e. Step-4 and Step-5.
Step-4 (Take print out of PDF form):
CA Foundation | CA CPT Exam Guidelines : Candidates whose photographs and signatures are not in exam data base, i.e. those whose photographs and signatures are not displayed on the screen, are required to fill the examination application form, take a print out of Form and send to ICAI. However, such candidates are also required to scan and upload their Certificate of Service, on the portal.
Therefore, login again on ICAIEXAM.ICAI.ORG to take print out of PDF form on A4 size paper with Portrait orientation. Never print on both sides of the paper.
However, if your exam application PDF is not generated please click here and check your status. This issue arises due to many reasons like slow internet/bandwidth, delay response time from bank, applicants refreshing the page frequently etc.
In case the amount have got deducted from your bank account and has not got reflected in ICAI records, please pay again and successfully get the PDF. Don’t worry if any multiple payments received by CA Institute as the extra payment will be refunded by ICAI on its own at the end of the online forms process.

Step-5 (Affix your Photo, Sign it and send to ICAI Office):
CA Foundation | CA CPT Exam Guidelines : In the appropriate place paste your recent color photograph of size 3.5 x 4.5 cms, Sign the form using only Black Ink Pen and get the form attested by Principal/Member of the Institute/Gazetted officer as the case may be.
Finally, you have to send your printed Exam Application form (PDF) along with attaching the required documents either by hand delivery to the following address or to head office by post.
