CA Foundation | CA CPT Compulsory For Graduates : CA is one of the good profession and is highly respected and prestigious career option in the society. CA has been gaining a lot of importance and scope these days. Every year around 50,000 CA are required in the Industry. CA is a person who actually audits the books of accounts of the companies and the individual. In order to become a CA earlier a student was required to complete 12th and was supposed to register with the ICAI Institute and then student was supposed to give CA Foundation | CA CPT exam which was of qualifying nature and even the student who has complete the Degree was also supposed to give an CPT exam.
But ICAI from 1st August 2012 has introduced a direct entry scheme for the students who have completed their Graduation degree. In this a Graduate student is exempted from the CPT exam and can now directly take an admission for the CA IPCC. From February 2016 the ICAI have made some changes in the CA Course and Syllabus. Now the CA IPCC course is renamed as the CA Intermediate course. So you need to take an admission for the CA Integrated course.
Is CA Foundation | CA CPT Compulsory For Graduates?
CA Foundation | CA CPT Compulsory For Graduates : In order to be eligible for the CA Direct entry scheme one needs to have secured aggregate 55% marks in the commerce graduation degree from a recognised University and having studied any three papers of 100 marks each out of Accounting, mercantile law,Corporate law,economics,Management,Costing Business Administration or Business Accounting,Taxation (Direct and Indirect Tax). So no more you need to give a CA Foundation | CA CPT or CA FOundation exam after completing your B.com and other graduation.
The CPT exam is not compulsory for a graduate student if the graduate student has scored 50% and more. If you have scored more than 50 percent in your graduation then you can directly enroll in the 2nd level which is known as the IPCC. However, if you have scored less than 50 percent marks in your graduation, then you will be required to clear the CPT exam first. Any graduates with less than a 50 percent score cannot directly appear for inter CA and have to pass CA-CPT exam first.

Registration and Eligibility for CA Foundation | CA CPT course
After passing class 10th, a student is eligible for registration for Common Proficiency Test. But a student can appear for CA-CPT only if he has appeared in the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 Examination).
A student who has got himself registered for Common Proficiency Test 60 days prior to the first day of the month in which CPT examination is to be held i.e. on or before 1st April and 1st October, can appear in the CPT examination to be held in June and December respectively. Common Proficiency Test examinations are held in June & December every year
To apply for admission to the CPT course a student is required to apply in the prescribed form.
- A student may buy Prospectus from ICAI center by remitting Rs.100. The application form is available in the Prospectus.
- Alternatively, the application form can be downloaded.
Registration Fees
The registration and tuition fee is Rs.6,000, which is to be remitted along with filled in application form. In case a student submits downloaded application form, he should remit Rs.6,100(Rs.100 for Prospectus). A copy of the Prospectus will be sent along with the study package.

- Demand Draft towards registration fees.
- Proof of date of birth : Class 10th admit card and 10th pass marksheet/10th pass certificate indicating date of birth/ duly attested by a Chartered Accountant/ Gazetted Officer/ Head of the institute.
- Attested copy of 12th pass or its equivalent qualification as recognized by central government, if passed
- Proof of Nationality , if student is foreigner
- Proof of Special Category Certificate i.e., SC/ST, OBC and Disabled.
SYLLABUS OF CPT
This test is divided into two sessions of two hours each
SESSION – I (Two Sections– Two hours – 100 Marks)
- Section A: Fundamentals of Accounting (60 Marks)
- Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 Marks)
SESSION – II (Two Sections– Two hours – 100 Marks)
- Section C: General Economics (50 Marks)
- Section D: Quantitative Aptitude (50 Marks)
Passing criteria in CPT
CPT is an objective type test with a negative marking which will be indicated in the question paper. There is a negative marking for selecting wrong answer to the extent of 25% marks allotted to a question.
A CPT candidate shall be declared to have passed the test if he obtains at one sitting a minimum of 30% marks in each section and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the sections, subject to the principle of negative marking.

Step-2: Now, you have to enter your personal details.
- Enter Your Name
- Enter Your Date of Birth
- Enter Your Parents’ Names
- Enter your Address for communication
- Select your Category (General, OBC, SC, ST)
- Choose Your Nationality
- Select Medium of Study
- Details of Educational Qualifications
- Annual income of parents
- If already student of Professional Education, provide unique registration code.
Step-3: After reviewing all information fill in Registration Form make payment using you Debit Card or Credit card.
Step-4: Now, Submit the form.
If you have applied online for CA Foundation | CA CPT Course registration then, you have to take a print out of filled-in application form, attach photograph, put signature and submit it to the appropriate office of the ICAI. CA Institute shall keep it for the purpose of verification of details and maintaining physical record at the Institute’s end. After submitting registration form you can collect study material in person.
